And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou has said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.
Faith and fear cannot be in the same place at the same time. Here was a woman with nothing left but a handful of flour and a little oil. She was going to make a meager meal for herself and her son and that would be it. She saw death as inevitable, that is until she had faith to believe in God. What a wonderful miracle this was.
God promised that if she would only believe she would see a wonderful blessing performed. She did exactly what she was commanded to do and by faith the blessing came. There was enough for all (v.15), but notice this miracle didn’t happen only once, but continually (until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth). For over three years … meal after meal … day after day … month after month … year after year … God continually blessed her faith.
Can you imagine? Faith reached into an empty barrel and faith poured from an empty bottle, and God supplied the need. I wonder what God could do for us if we would only believe?
