Deut. 1:21

Behold, the Lord thy God hath set the land before thee: go up and possess it, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; Fear not, neither be discouraged.

Moses is rehearsing the history of Israel. Explaining to them the reason for their wandering in the wilderness for 40 years. Their sin is not an uncommon one. Each of us has been guilty of this sin more than once. It is the sin of unbelief.

It is difficult to imagine how a nation that had seen so many miracles could still not believe. They were brought into Egypt miraculously. They survived 430 years of bondage. They witnessed the plagues that were poured out on Egypt as God said, “Let my people go.” They were guided by a pillar of cloud and fire and protected by the same. They witnessed the “salvation of the Lord” as they saw the Red Sea part and walked across on dry ground. They received Manna from heaven and water from a rock. Their enemies fled in fear of them … but still the sin of disbelief.

God hath set the land before thee …

The Lord knew what was to come. If God had prepared the land for them, surely He would provide the way to obtain it.

… go up and possess it …

This was the command of God. There was really nothing for them to do, but obey. If they would only “go up” they would “possess it”. They had God’s promise. But this is where they staggered in unbelief.

What land has God set before you today? You are assured that He has prepared the way, but you must decide: Will you live in unbelief or march into victory?
