Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven?

“…Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven…” (Acts 1:11)

You know, sometimes we’re so busy looking up we don’t take time to see what’s around us. The last thing Jesus said before He ascended into heave was…

“…Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). And with that command He empowered His disciples to do the work of evangelism. “…Ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me…”

The work of “Great Commission” is very important in the eyes of God. He had already given us the power for this work. All we need to do is to put it into practice. But, most of us are like these men of Galilee. We stand marveled and amazed at the ascension of Christ, but never seem amazed (or for that matter) concerned about the commission of Christ.

Let’s praise the God for the ascension of Christ, it shows us that He’s coming back again. And with the thought of His return in our minds, let us focus our efforts on our need to be busy telling others about Jesus.

Lets not only look up into heaven, but look around you and you will see what Christ saw:

Say ye not, There are yet four months and then cometh the harvest? Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest” (John 4:35).

Help us to see the need of those around us. Help us to not be afraid to share with them the love of Christ. Help us Lord to be an example to them in how we live and what we say. May others see Jesus in us.
